Serving at Moomba - BBQ - 9 March 2009

Members of our club turned out in force to help President Gary H to cook for participants of the Moomba Parade this year on the RMIT University Campus. We estimated that we fed over 500 hungry ‘Paraders’ with second helpings for some of those who liked what we served. Our catering was very ambitious and some local charity organisations reaped the benefit of overordering.

Community Chest 2008 - DRUMBEAT Program - The Centre - North & West Melbourne

posted Feb 6, 2009 2:57 PM by web master   [ updated Oct 23, 2009 6:10 AM ]

The Board confirmed that the proceeds of $1010.00 from 2008 Community Chest will go to The Centre’s New Project ‘DRUMBEAT’ and is aimed at the young African men in our district who are over 15 and over. A revamped Community Chest will be carried out for 2009.

The DRUMBEAT (Discovering Relationships Using Music - Beliefs, Emotions, Attutudes and Thought) Program utilises hand drumming to engage participants and explore commonalities between making music together as a group and developing healthy relationships.

The aim of the program is to increase participants social competencies and self esteem in order to reduce their levels of alienation - a recognised 'risk factor' in those with problematic drug and alcohol use.
